Thanks guy,
I successfully unbricked my PRO/1000 MT.

Just dumped the eeprom from a working one, changed the MAC (the 6 octets at the beginning), and used your script to write to the dead card... reboot... works.

If someone gets here by a search, the card vendor/product is 8086:100e, Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop PCI, and the eeprom is:
Offset Values
------ ------
0x0000 XX XX XX XX XX XX 10 02 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
0x0010 84 a7 07 08 0a 66 2e 00 86 80 00 61 4e 00 20 b2
0x0020 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
0x0030 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
0x0040 cf 00 61 78 0b 28 00 00 c8 04 ff ff ff ff ff ff
0x0050 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 02 06
0x0060 2c 01 00 40 1f 12 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
0x0070 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff fe 24 31

(Just need to replace the XX with the MAC written on the card)

Hi, I had a problem when I tried to copy kernel image on /dev/mtdblock1, I got no left space on device.
I got this:
/dev/mtdblock1 3.8M 2.3M 1.5M 60% /mnt
but filesystem is empty.

Any suggestion?

thank you

There are "security cameras" on there? Nope, didn't notice them.

I was more interested in the interior but for cameras: DO NOT WANT!

Indeed. I really enjoyed the conversation. It was the first time I ever saw one of these rare and mythical creatures called "users". :-)

Amsterdam didn't ask to have the notebook switched on either. All they wanted me was to open it so they could see there's a keyboard.

So maybe times are changing indeed.

Yes, it's a test if the tool - laptop, haircutter, $whatever - is at least seemingly working and not just a shell for not so nice things.

Of course, I'm sure you *can* build a bomb or whatever in a laptop shell that can at least simulate the startup of an OS, but it's much more hassle.

I believe they put you to start the laptop to make sure in the inside it is a laptop, not a bomb or something like that.

Probably it was refreshing to have such an insightful conversation with the security guy.

As I've only ever been doing netinstalls, I never experienced your problem. My installation tree is always completely available, so a dependency problem wouldn't break the installation.

I have noticed, that some dependencies changed between e.g. CentOS 5 GA and the current 5.3 release with the latter pulling in more packages than before.
Revisiting the kickstart receipt may be in order.

To build your smaller CDs, I'd suggest you take a look at revisor. It allows you to create customized CDs and does correct depsolving for you.

Useful article: I've been attempting to do something similar, including the virtualisation aspect using VirtualBox. In addition (possibly) I'm trying to keep the actual install CD-ROM image small by only placing in the CentOS directory those packages I actually want to be installed. When I deselected iptables-ipv6 as per your example, the install failed, complaining that package was missing. That was the case for a number of core packages I was trying to deselect. Was this your experience or was the aspect of keeping the install image small not a concern for you (i.e. fully populated package directory)
